Our Crazy Boys

I thought I would post some pictures of the boys doing what they love best!

The metal death trap that Alex is playing in is his "bus"! It is actually a frame for a laundry sack, and it fits nicely in between my fridge and the washer... if it were ever there!! Carl HATES the bus and would throw it out in a second! He's just waiting for Al to kill himself with it!

Jacob is loving his scooter that he inherited from Lauren! He goes pretty fast, and rarely if ever falls. He has taken it all the way to the library and back with me!

Jacob has developed quite a few freckles over the summer. This shot was supposed to show that, but it didn't quite work.

The boys are born hams! They hate to take a picture where they can't pose, or "look beautiful", as Jacob says!

Greenfield Village

Today we went with some women from church down to Greenfield Village. They were kind enough to get us all in with the various passes a few of them had. In total there were, I believe, 8 women and 29 children!! Whoo buddy! We all had a really great time though. For those of you who don't know, Greenfield Village is part of the Henry Ford experience here in Michigan. The village holds a collection of old buildings, some belonging to Henry Ford, others belonging to people like Thomas Edison and the Wright family. There are many artisans who work in the village, and they all dress in period clothing from the late 19th century. More info

Our little group, consisting of Lauren, Trey, Jake, Al and I, had a blast. We rode the train around the park, went on the carousel about 8 times (4 too many for me! ha ha), and ate enormous ice creams. Alex lost most of his crunchy dipped cone topping, but a fat squirrel was happy to take it off his hands. We were able to watch glass being blown and handcrafted which was really fun.

Mostly though, we did kid activities. The boys were able to participate in a game of baseball. It was interesting because it was played with old rules, allowing foul balls to be, well... not foul! and the ability to tag any base in any order. Jake got out, and was none too happy about it, but the other boys seemed to like it a lot. Even Senta, one of my good friends, joined in the fun, and got a wet behind for her effort, slipping on the wet grass on her way to first base.

After the other gals went home, we joined in some of the old-fashioned games they had set up in the field. I was even able to show my prowess at walking on stilts (which I was unaware I could do!!). We ended up being there about 6 1/2 hours. All in all, it was a very enjoyable day. I believe we will all sleep well tonight!

Storms of DEATH!!

What a whopping storm we had today!! We left to go to the park around 11:30 and had to come home after only 1/2 hour. The clouds came in so fast that we had barely got home before the rain started. After about an hour, the rain had stopped, so Lauren and I went to a few stores. By the time we got out of K-Mart, the rain had picked back up again, coming down pretty hard. Unfortunately, only one block later, we could hear the emergency sirens blaring. This got us on edge, but we got as far as a block from home before we ran into any real trouble. It was raining so hard, that all we could see was stop signs and headlights. Of course that was the time that the dork without his headlights on decided to drive down the street. we nearly missed him, only by about a foot or so. Sigh...really, who wouldn't have their headlight on?! We found Carl and the boys coming up from the basement where they had been hiding from the storm. Luckily there was no tornado, but severe winds and rain. We are glad to be safe and sound.

Our Day

Today was quite a bit of fun. Lauren and Trey returned from their vacation and are officially here every week day from 7:30 until 5. We had nothing planned so we did quite a few different activities. Nothing is quite so interesting as finding something that a 12, 9, 7 and 4 year old will all like to do!! We did discover that painting and play-doh are 2 of those very things.

Lauren and I went out this morning and harvested fresh mulberries from the numerous trees we have along our property line. Alex joined in the fun and ended up with feet that will be stained purple for the next week or so. We ended up eating so many that Lauren and I both ended up with a belly-ache.

We went to the local park for a picnic at lunch time. We had sandwiches, melon, candy, grapes and hammy roll- ups. (for those of you who don't know, these are great appetizers made of cream cheese rolled up in a slice of ham topped with a green olive. Delicious!) Lauren made the roll-ups twice the normal size so that was pretty great! The kids spent a few hours at the park playing with the other kids. I am surprised we made it so long since the temperature reached over 90 today.

After the park we came home a ran through the sprinkler with the neighbor girl. What started out as a sprinkle, became an all out war, drenching everyone to the bone. There were no survivors...

Jacob the All Star

We all had a great time at Jacob's All Star game this morning. The day started off a little rough due to some wardrobe malfunctions. Jacob was given a star to iron on to his shirt for the game. No big deal right?! Well, after 10 minutes of trying to get it to stick, and only succeeding halfway, I was fed up! I managed to get the other half to stay on with the help of a safety pin. Come to find out, almost all had the exact same difficulty, this year as well as last! Seems like they should try a different approach.

Jacob was a great asset to his team. He played both outfield and catcher. He got 2 hits, scoring one run. He was caught at first base with the other hit. After playing for 1 1/2 hours, they called it quits, and handed out awards to each participant. Jacob was very excited! We are so proud of our All Star player! The club will be posting additional pictures on their website if any of you would like to check it out. http://www.dadsclubsoftball.com/

Just as a side note, I thought I would post a note about the prize I won yesterday in the library drawing. I was given a canvas tote bag filled with 4 new books, a library t-shirt, a pin and a $10 gift certificate to a nearby florist. How nice is that?! I really was stunned at the generosity and am very excited to begin my new collection of literature. I will let you know how they are.

Summertime, and the living is easy

I am loving summer! This week my niece and nephew that stay with me are out of town. To make the most of this, we all slept in until 9, which is a rarity! After getting up and ready, we spent 3 hours at the local park with our friends from church. When we got home, we visited with the neighbors for a few hours, and then came home and had dinner. What a lazy afternoon! I adore summer!!

Today we plan on heading to the local library. It seems that I have won a prize in the adult reading program they have! Can't wait to see what it is. Although for me, the book is the best prize. Currently, I am reading the novel, Memoirs of a Geisha, by Arthur Golden. Seems like so far, the movie did an excellent job retelling the story. Even though I already know how it ends, I am enraptured with this book and can hardly put it down. I highly recommend it!

Some of you may wonder about our title...

Our blog, entitled, "Whats Wrong NOW!?" is due to our families lack of luck. It seems that when we are going along smoothly at last, there is another bump in the road, or sometimes even a large crevas! Don't be alarmed though! It really is just to be silly, a joke on ourselves.

Jacob played baseball last night with his team, the Tigers. He was able to get 3 hits, but he never got past 2nd base, as his team would always get their 3rd out around that time. He took it well though and is excited to play in the All Star game this Saturday at 10:00AM. I will have pictures posted from the game on that day or the next.

The boys also went to a puppet show in the park yesterday. Jacob was chosen to participate (seeing as he was the tallest there). He played the part of the bridge with another boy, and they held it up during the story of the 3 Billygoats Gruff. He was very excited. Alex was a bit miffed that he was not chosen, but he survived. They were both rewarded for their behavior with snowcones. Jake came home with a bright red face, Alex blue. :)

Welcome to our Blog

Carl and I have FINALLY decided to enter the world of blogging. This seems the best way to keep my family up to date on all our our daily ins and outs. Plus, many of our friends are doing it and you know how we hate to be left behind! ha ha In the next few days we will have uploaded quite a few pictures, making this sterile page feel more like us. Hope that you all enjoy!
